Elegant but Inexpensive Wedding Invitations

News of a wedding can travel so fast that the bride and groom may wonder why there is still a need for making wedding invitations. But there are several practical reasons for having these pretty neat cards. For example, if you invited a friend to your wedding and told that friend that you won’t have wedding invitations sent out, that friend may spread the word around and you’ll end up with more guests than you planned.

This would put a strain on your tight wedding budget or would change your honeymoon plans. Thus, it would be better to send out wedding invitations so people will know if they are invited or not and the couple can control the expenses. But how can you make beautiful, elegant, neat, unique, and inexpensive wedding invitations?

Basics of Wedding Invitations

Before making inexpensive wedding invitations, you should first know the basics. A wedding invitation, after all, is not the same as a birthday party invitation. The latter is an invitation to have fun while the former is an invitation to witness an important ceremony. Here are the basics.
  • The names and addresses that should be on the envelope should be elegantly written. You could ask for help of someone who has a beautiful penmanship, or you could use a computer program that will print out an elegant font for the envelopes.

  • The wedding invitations should be sent one to two months ahead of the wedding date so that the invited guests will have time to arrange their schedules and send back a reply. The RSVP will be give you a fairly accurate idea on how many guests you will have on the wedding day.

  • The wording of the wedding invitation should be correct and contain all the necessary information that the invited guest will need. It would be disastrous to have a flowery wording and omit the time of the wedding ceremony. Most important of all, have someone check the wording’s grammar and spelling.

  • And finally, the return address of the wedding invitation should be that of the bride, even if the invitation is for a friend of the groom.

Making Wedding Invitations Inexpensive

Now that you have a general idea about wedding invitations, here are the ways to make them inexpensive.
  • Make a list of guests. Not everyone should be invited. Co-workers can be invited only if these co-workers are also friends of the bride and groom. Once the number of guests is determines, the bride and groom can buy the exact number (plus one or two extra) of envelopes.

  • The wedding invitation need not be placed in two envelopes. One will do. For RSVP, the invitation may include a postcard. For stamps, there are affordable pretty ones from the local post office.

  • Check various online businesses that make wedding and party invitations. They usually charge less because they do not have a lot of overhead business expenses. They allow customization of wedding invitations. Some of them also offer discounts at certain times of the year.

  • Find ways to have wedding invitations created for free. For example, when renting the groom’s tuxedo, the local company may also offer free wedding invitations if 5 or more tuxedos will be rented. Perhaps it would be a good idea to rent tuxedos for the fathers and close male friends.

  • And finally, you can make your own wedding invitation using your own computer and printer. You just needed a little creativity and costs are reduced dramatically as you only need to buy the pretty paper.
